Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Dakota Fanning is bringing a children's classic to life in the new movie Charlotte's Web - take a look. (Clip from Charlotte's Web plays) Elisabeth: I absolutely love this little lady, please welcome Dakota Fanning! (audience cheers and applause) Hi Dakota, how are you? *Dakota walks out waving to the audience, and hugs each of the View ladies* Dakota: Hi! I'm great! So good to see you! Elisabeth: Good to see you! You look so cute! Rosie O'Donnell: Good to see you! Elisabeth: You are fantastic. Dakota: Thank you! Joy Behar: Look how cute you are! I love this dress! Rosie: You are beautiful and you've grown up into such a big girl I can't believe it! Dakota: Well last time I saw you I was really young. Rosie: How old were you then, you remember? Dakota: Well when I was on your show I was like, seven. Rosie: Seven, that was your first TV show ever. Dakota: That was my first talk show, TV show, yeah! Joy: How old are you now? Dakota: I'm twelve. Joy: Twelve. Shaun Robinson: You have a birthday coming up, right? Dakota: In February. Shaun: In February, right. Is it true that Robert De Niro threw you a birthday party? Dakota: Well I was on the set of Hide and Seek at the time, and so I, I did. He had a surprise birthday party for me, um, up at lunch. Elisabeth: That's intense. Dakota: But it was the day he was wearing the yellow raincoat, with all the blood on it, so he was up there like "Surprise!" and I'm like "Yeah!" (laughs) Woah! Rosie: Too much of a surprise! Joy: How was it, what was it like to work with Robert De Niro? I mean did you love it, was he great as he is the actor? Dakota: He was great as an actor and as a person, he was just the nicest guy and so sweet. Elisabeth: You've had the opportunity to work with so many incredible actors too, and can I just say anytime Dakota comes here she comes and she writes us all letters, still signs 'em "Love Dakota, age 12", "Love Dakota, age 9", "age 10", we have like all your ages. (laughter) You are so polite and grounded - Shaun: She is, she is. Elisabeth: - Your parents are doing a good job, and you are just so gracious. What's their secret? Do you still do chores, like, what do you do? Dakota: Yeah, definitely! I mean I do all of those things as well as, you know, get to do other things I love to do, so I just, I really have stayed the way that I've always been. I haven't changed, and - Elisabeth: No, you haven't. Dakota: - You know, thanks to so many other people, as well. Elisabeth: Did you have fun doing this movie cause it was so cute, and you - she plays Fern, who saves Wilbur the pig, and it is so touching. And I heard that you had to actually train with little baby pigs, right? Dakota: Well I did because we had fifty pigs that we worked with, of all different sizes. We'd have little babies and we'd watch them grow up and so, you know, they were so cute. And then before I started doing, playing Fern in the movie, I went down to where they kept all the animals, all the pigs and the sheep and kind of just practiced holding them for the first time, cause I had never really held a pig before except - Elisabeth: Did you want to? Dakota: Yeah! Oh definitely, definitely. You know, Fern - one of my most important, one of the most important people in the movie is Wilbur! You know, it's, I have such an important relationship with him in the movie, so I just wanted to do - Joy: I've never held a pig. I've dated a few. (laughter) I want to ask you - since you did this movie, can you eat bacon and eggs anymore? Dakota: You know bacon is just, I can't even do it anymore! I mean you know, it's just so sad! So sad! Rosie: Well we saw - they gave us a tape and my family watched it together and they loved it and my daughter, who's nine, said right then "I'm never eating bacon again." Because you fall in love with that pig, and with you, and this beautiful, beautiful movie. Elisabeth: It is, it is... Dakota: Thank you! Yeah, all the pigs that we worked with, they have good homes in Australia that won't ever eat them, so that was important. But I don't think I'm gonna even anymore - Shaun: Dakota when did you get the braces? Dakota: I've had the braces... well I had them on last year, for a while, and then I had them off - Shaun: You took them off? Too soon? Dakota: No, I got them off cause I was supposed to, it wasn't, I didn't, you know, want to, but - then I had to get a surgery done. Rosie: Uh oh. Dakota: Yeah. Which, I have a chain now. (laughs) Rosie: Oh... Dakota: That connects a tooth up here down to my braces that they pull every two weeks. Elisabeth: Oh, that sounds like a good time, Dakota! Dakota: It's great! (laughs) Elisabeth: "It's chain day!" Rosie: My son Parker had that, and they had to, we had to put in a little key, and turn it - Dakota: Oh, right - Rosie: - to crack his palate, so that his teeth could come down. Dakota: I had that too! I had that too. And my mom would do it every night, and she'd turn it, and then - Elisabeth: That's love. Dakota: - one time she was like "Where is it? Where is the thing?" and I was like "Ow!" cause she had like, turned the skin instead of the opening! Shaun: Ow! Dakota: Yeah! Rosie: I have to tell you it's a lot of pressure on the mommy. Every time I had to do it I was like "I don't want to do it!" but - Dakota: I know, my mom was like - and then it would hurt the first time, cause it would really, like, separate. Elisabeth: Do you get a break around the house on the holidays, are you working on anything new right now, or are you - Dakota: Um, not right now, no. Elisabeth: That's good. Dakota: Christmas is just at home, and we have a new dog. Elisabeth: Oh! What kind is it? Dakota: We have a schnoodle. Joy: What's a schnoodle? Shaun: A schnauzer and a poodle! Dakota: A miniature schnauzer toy poodle. She's white - Elisabeth: What's his name? Dakota: Lewellen. Elisabeth: Oh! It's a girl! Dakota: Yeah, it's a girl. Joy: Last time you were here you were here with Tom Cruise, you remember? Dakota: Oh yeah, I do! Joy: Did you go to the wedding? Dakota: I wasn't at the wedding, no, I wasn't invited to the wedding but in LA there was a reception for all the people that weren't at the wedding, that I'm gonna to be going to. Rosie: Oh! Right, exactly. Cause you know it's far to go all the way to Italy. I'm sure that he wanted to have you celebrate there so they're having a big party in LA soon, and that'll be fun. Dakota: Yeah! So I'll be there, so that'll be - Elisabeth: What are you going to wear? Dakota: I don't know! It's like, what do you wear to that?! Rosie: I think something fabulous! Dakota: Exactly! Shaun: Something really, really nice, to wear to that. Dakota: Right. Rosie: You know Dakota's little sister is now starring in Babel, or Babble, however you want to say it - (applause) Joy: Oh yeah, she's adorable! Rosie: Looks just like you! Elisabeth: Yeah, she does! She's cute! Rosie: Now is it your dog, or your sister and your dog? Dakota: My sister and my dog, yes, I'll get in trouble if I say it's my dog! So, it's our dog. Joy: How old is your sister? Dakota: She's eight. Shaun: Wow. Joy: She's eight years old. Rosie: Well the movie Charlotte's Web is fantastic - Dakota: Thank you! Rosie: - it's a classic and you do it so well. The View ladies, all of us, we got together and got you a little something for Christmas - for you, for your sister, and for your new dog, cause we heard you wanted one - so here you go, we heard you wanted a dog walker. Dakota: A dog walker! That is so great! Rosie: Yeah for your little puppy! Or you can put Wilbur in there! Whatever you want to do. Dakota: Yeah! Thank you so much! Rosie: It's lovely to see you, you're such a sweet little girl - Dakota Fanning! Charlotte's Web, it opens on the 15th. It's wonderful, everyone in the audience is getting a copy of the soundtrack. We'll be right back after this, don't go away.
