Regis: She's only 12 but already has an impressive resume with hits like War of the Worlds and Man On Fire, now she stars in the classic Charlotte's Web - please welcome Dakota Fanning! (cheers and applause)
*Dakota walks in waving at the audience, hugs Regis and Kelly and sits down*
Regis: Look at you!
Dakota: Hey! Good to see you!
Kelly: Look at you, you look so adorable!
Dakota: Thank you!
Regis: Look at Dakota Fanning! Every time we see you you're a little older, you're a little taller -
Kelly: And pardon me little miss high heels!
Dakota: Oh, just a little bit!
Kelly: That's adorable!
Regis: Maybe that's why you're a little taller! (laughter) And we have here some braces, huh?
Dakota: A little bit of braces -
Regis: Well you gotta go through that, you know that. Everybody does.
Dakota: I've been through a lot with my teeth here. My orthodontist, Dr Jacobson, I go to him every two weeks -
Regis: Really?
Kelly: No kidding.
Dakota: - because I had surgery on my mouth to put a chain on a tooth that's like, up here -
Kelly: Oh my god!
Dakota: - to pull it down and so every two weeks I have to go to get the chain pulled! (laughter)
Kelly: No kidding! Now you can't just pull the chain yourself? (laughter)
Dakota: I would! See, I would do it because it's really painful.
Regis: Right, sure. Is it hanging down now, can I see it?
Dakota: You can probably see it if you look up there, there's a little gold chain? (laughter) Can you see it? It's like a little, there's a gold chain and then an elastic thread that goes through it, and then they pull it.
Regis: Well thanks for telling us that. (laughter)
Kelly: Yeah, you know what, there are so many kids right now that totally relate to how you're feeling -
Dakota: I, there really is because they say - the first time I went to get it done I didn't know it was gonna hurt and they were like "yeah, most people scream out in pain." (laughter) And I was like "what?!" And she was like "yeah, there's gonna be some, there's gonna be like 20 seconds of intense pressure."
Regis: Oh! So how long do they stay on?
Dakota: I think they have to stay on for like five or six more months.
Regis: Oh, okay, that's not too bad and then after that, beautiful smile.
Dakota: I'll probably have to get them back on again. (laughter)
Regis: So what's going on for Christmas, what do you want for Christmas?
Dakota: Well I just got a dog!
Kelly: Oh no!
Dakota: About five months ago I got my first dog, which I've always, always wanted so I have a schnoodle.
Kelly: A schnoodle, now what's a schnoodle?
Regis: It's a combination of a poodle and -
Dakota: Schnauzer. A miniature schnauzer.
Kelly: What does that look like?
Regis: A schnoodle!
Dakota: It's just white and fluffy, and she has a blonde, some blonde highlights that go down her back. (laughter)
Regis: Oh, oh, good.
Kelly: She sounds like me!
Dakota: (laughs) Yeah!
Kelly: Does she shed like I do? (laughter)
Dakota: Nope, she's hypoallergenic.
Kelly: Oh, that's great, that's a great dog to have!
Dakota: Right. So, I want a dog stroller.
Kelly: Ohhhh... (laughter)
Regis: What, the dog can't walk?
Dakota: No, she can, she's about nine pounds and she likes to go in her bag, and I carry her around, but sometimes she gets too heavy -
Regis: Well nine pounds is a kind of a heavy weight!
Kelly: Yeah, that's no joke!
Dakota: Yeah, so I like, I would like to stroll her! Instead of carrying her.
Kelly: So that's the big, the must-have -
Dakota: I'd like a pink dog stroller, yes.
Regis: Sure, yes, good for you! (laughter) Where do you spend Christmas?
Dakota: Christmas is at my house in California, and my grandfather comes down there -
Kelly: Well that's exciting, to have the whole family there.
Dakota: Yeah, exactly! The big thing now, this year, is because we have to have a Christmas tree and we're afraid that our dog's gonna get the Christmas tree, and eat all the ornaments and stuff.
Kelly: Mmmm...
Regis: Oh, is he that frisky, huh?
Dakota: Well she tore up the Vanity Fair that had Suri and Tom and Katie on it. I came home and I found, like, Suri's nose by the front door - (laughter) - I was like "Nooo! My Suri!"
Kelly: She's jealous!
Regis: Wow, this dog is a bit of a terror!
Dakota: No, she's really sweet, she's really sweet! But she's only eight months.
Kelly: Aw, yeah, she doesn't know any better.
Dakota: Today's actually - she's nine months today.
Regis: Gosh, and you're here and not there. (laughter)
Dakota: Yeah. (laughs)
Regis: Back with Dakota Fanning in just a moment!

Regis: Dakota Fanning from Charlotte's Web which is opening on December 15 - well before we talk about the movie, last time you were here, you requested an autograph as Kelly reminded me, for your little sister!
Dakota: Yes!
Regis: And what happened?
Dakota: She - well, she loves Marilyn Monroe as well. So she has a picture of Marilyn Monroe, and your picture, in her bedroom.
Kelly: Aww!
Regis: I can't - no, no, I don't share. (laughter) It's either me or Marilyn Monroe, she's gotta make a decision!
Dakota: I'll tell her! I'll tell her.
Regis: She didn't get Marilyn Monroe's autograph.
Dakota: No, she did not! No. (laughter)
Regis: Now is this the little one who's in Babel?
Dakota: Yes, she's in Babel.
Regis: Boy, oh boy. Do you have another sister, besides that?
Dakota: No, just Elle, just Elle.
Regis: Well both of you are appeared in big movies, huh?
Dakota: Thank you, yes.
Regis: Now what do you think of her?
Dakota: Oh, she's great, I'm so proud of her. I haven't seen Babel but -
Regis: She's eight.
Dakota: She's eight, yeah.
Regis: Alright, fine. So now, Charlotte's Web. You know, it's all about the spider and the pig and the whole thing -
Kelly: We saw it, we loved it, it was amazing -
Dakota: Oh, great!
Kelly: - and you of course are so great in it. My kids now recognize you from all your other movies!
Dakota: Oh, alright!
Kelly: Isn't that funny?
Dakota: That's great.
Regis: Do you know how many kids are going to want little pet pigs?
Dakota: I know! They're so cute!
Regis: But you, you handled yours very well. Did you fall in love with them?
Dakota: I did! Well we had about fifty that played Wilbur. (laughter)
Regis: Over the stretch of the movie, right?
Dakota: Yes, 'cause there's different sizes to Wilbur, of course so we would see them when they were like a month old, four weeks old, we would get these little baby pigs, and then they would grow up and get big, and we'd be like "Oh I can't believe that that's Daisy!" because we would see her when she's a little baby.
Kelly: So they would each have individual names?
Dakota: Oh, yes!
Kelly: And they would respond to their names?
Dakota: Yes!
Kelly: No kidding!
Dakota: Names are a big thing, they would get, they started running out of names by the end of the movie. They were like "We can't figure out any names," and they started asking all the crew to, like, name these pigs! (laughter)
Kelly: No kidding!
Regis: So, but tricks - a pig can only learn one trick a day, right? Isn't that the theory?
Dakota: Well, I think -
Regis: They gain one pound a day.
Dakota: They do, they gain one pound a day, so they get, you know, they get big and... you know, big!
Regis: So are they good little actors?
Dakota: They are you know! And I think that was a lot due to the trainers and their hard work and -
Regis: Oh, sure, wow.
Dakota: And of course it was a lot on there as well.
Regis: 'Cause it's a complicated movie - it's not only live, there's animation in it, there's CG, there's a lot of things going on. But it's something different that I think your kids are gonna love, do your kids love it?
Kelly: Loved, loved.
Regis: Let's see, your character's name is Fern, she's hiding Wilbur the pig, this pig becomes, you know, inseparable from her, so she's got him inside her desk at school.
Dakota: Right. (laughs)
Regis: Charlotte's Web.
